Slots with tumbles in South Africa

Compare at a glance

RTP here is the figure the studio publishes. Some studios let the casino choose one of several settings, and in some games the bet you pick or the moment you cash out moves the return; each game guide says which applies.

One spin, a chain of results

A tumbling slot keeps a spin going after it pays. The winning symbols are taken off, those above slide down, new ones drop into the empty places, and the screen is read again; the chain stops at the first refill that brings no new win. In Starlight Princess the rules set no limit on how many tumbles can follow one another, and the chain's wins reach the balance only when it ends.

The idea travels between studios under different names. Pragmatic Play says tumble; NetEnt's Gonzo's Quest calls it the Avalanche, which NetEnt's page says replaces traditional spins; in EGT Digital's Sugartime the reels topple.

What rides on the chain

The difference is in what a chain changes. Gonzo's Quest raises a multiplier bar with each Avalanche up to x5, and in its Free Falls the bar starts at x3 and reaches x15. Habanero's Hey Sushi goes x1, x2, x3 and then x5 from cascade to cascade, and in the base game falls back to x1 once a cascade brings no win.

In Starlight Princess and Fortune of Olympus multipliers from 2x to 500x can land during the chain; when it runs out of wins their values are summed, not multiplied together, and applied once to the total. Sugartime takes the winning symbols away but leaves scatters and multipliers in place, paying scatter wins at the end. In Parthenon: Quest for Immortality a winning symbol in the top row of reels 2 to 5 turns into a wild before the next Avalanche falls.

Reading a tumbling slot's page

A long chain says nothing about the return over time. Our game pages give the studio's RTP and win limit where they are published: 96.50% and a 5,000x cap for Starlight Princess, 96.55% and 10,000x for Fortune of Olympus. Habanero ships Hey Sushi in versions of about 86%, 92%, 94%, 97% or 98%, and the casino runs one of them, so the figure that applies is the one on the game's information screen at your casino.
