How Madame Destiny Megaways works
Each spin lands with reels of different heights. The rules put the limits at up to 7 symbols on reels 1 and 6 and up to 8 on reels 2 to 5, where the eighth place is a top row that spins independently from right to left over those four reels. A MEGAWAYS counter in the corner shows the ways of the spin in front of you; the rules give 200,704 as the most possible, which is 7 x 8 x 8 x 8 x 8 x 7 by our arithmetic.
A win needs matching symbols on neighbouring reels from the leftmost one, in any row. Pragmatic's launch post calls it a 7x6 slot. On a pay way only the highest win is paid, and the wins of several ways are added together.
After a win the winning symbols disappear, the rest fall down and new symbols drop in from above, at the same reel sizes as the spin that started it. The tumbles carry on until one brings no new win, and only then does the total reach the balance.
What each symbol pays, as a multiple of the stake
The first rules page of Pragmatic's free demo lists cash amounts for a $2.00 stake; we divided them by 2 to get multiples. The fortune teller wild and the crystal ball
- A wild that doubles. Madame Destiny substitutes for every symbol except the scatter. The rules let her appear only on reels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, never on the first, and every winning combination she is part of is multiplied by 2x, in the base game and in free spins alike.
- A scatter that pays on its own. The scatter, a glowing crystal ball as we read the picture, appears on all reels and counts anywhere. Three pay 5x the total bet, four 10x, five 20x and six 100x, and three or more also start the free spins. At a R2 stake that is R10 for three and R200 for six, our sums.
The wheel of fortune before the free spins
Before the round the rules show a WHEEL OF FORTUNE "with two slices containing a number of free spins and multiplier". It spins and awards a random combination of the two. The possible spins are 5, 8, 10 or 12, and the possible multipliers 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x or 25x. You do not pick either number.
The multiplier the wheel gives holds for the whole round and applies to the total win of every free spin. The rules describe it changing on a retrigger, not with each free spin or tumble.
Three or more scatters during the round retrigger it. The wheel spins again and awards a random number of spins and a random multiplier, which the rules say are added to the current values, and there is no limit on how many times that can happen. By our arithmetic, a round that began with 8 spins at 5x and is retriggered for 10 spins at 3x carries on at 8x with 10 more spins. The rules add that special reels are in play during the round, without describing them.
The Double Chance switch and buying the round
The panel left of the reels, Double Chance to Win Feature, changes the bet multiplier from 20x, normal play, to 25x. The rules say the chance to win free spins naturally is then doubled and more scatters are present on the reels. In the demo the panel prices it at $2.50 next to a $2.00 bet, so a R2 stake becomes R2.50 in rand, our sum.
BUY FREE SPINS starts the round at once for 100x the current total bet: the button reads $200 at $2.00, which is R200 at a R2 stake. With the 25x ante on, the buy is switched off. Pragmatic's launch post says the buy is offered in certain jurisdictions, so a South African casino may show it or not.
The rules screen gives the return of each choice: 96.56% in normal play and 96.67% with the ante or with the buy. No way of betting, with or without the extras, beats the house edge.
The 5,000x limit
The rules say the maximum win amount is limited to 5,000x the bet. If the total win of a free spins round reaches that figure, the round ends at once, the win is awarded and the remaining free spins are forfeited. The intro screen repeats it as "Win up to 5,000 x bet". At a R2 stake the limit is R10,000, our arithmetic.
