FICA Verification at South African Betting Sites
FICA is the law that makes operators confirm who you are. It is the single biggest source of frustration for new players, and almost all of that frustration comes from doing it at the wrong moment.

What FICA is and why it exists 🪪
FICA is South Africa's Financial Intelligence Centre Act. It requires businesses handling money to know who their customers are, and licensed gambling operators fall under it.
In practice it means an operator must confirm your identity and your address before it pays you money. It is not the operator being awkward and support cannot waive it, because the requirement is not theirs to waive.
It also does something useful for you: it is why a licensed operator cannot quietly pay your winnings into someone else's account, and why an account in your name stays in your name.
What you will be asked for
- Proof of identity. Green ID book, smart ID card or passport. Photograph it flat, in daylight, with all four corners in frame and no glare across the number.
- Proof of address. Municipal bill, bank statement or signed lease with your name and address, usually dated within the last three months.
- Proof of bank account. Sometimes requested: a bank confirmation letter or statement header showing the account is yours.
- Occasionally, proof of payment method. For cards, a photo with the middle digits covered. Never send a full card number and CVV to anyone.
Why documents get rejected
Every one of these is avoidable in thirty seconds.
- The name does not match. A shortened first name at sign-up, a maiden name on the bill, a missing middle name. Register exactly as your ID reads.
- The document is too old. Proof of address usually has to be recent. A bill from last year is not proof you live there now.
- The photo is unreadable. Glare, a finger over the number, half the document out of frame. This is the most common rejection and the most annoying.
- It is a screenshot of a screenshot. Send the original PDF from your bank or municipality where you can.

Can I play before I am verified?
Usually yes, you can deposit and play. Verification is checked when you withdraw, which is why doing it early saves the frustration.
How long does verification take?
It varies by operator and by how clean your documents are. Sending them on day one means the wait happens before you need the money, not after.
Is it safe to send my ID to a betting site?
To a licensed South African operator, this is a legal requirement they are obliged to handle properly. To an unlicensed offshore site, you are handing identity documents to a company with no local accountability.
Can I use someone else's bank account?
No. The payout account must be in the name of the verified account holder.
