How voucher deposits work 💰

You pay cash at a till, kiosk or spaza shop and receive a code, usually a string of digits on a slip or by SMS. At the operator's cashier you choose the voucher method and enter the code. The value is credited to your account.

That is the whole flow, and its usefulness is obvious: no card, no bank approval, no declined transaction. Cash to balance in one step, at a till you already walk past.

The three names you will see most in South Africa are 1Voucher, OTT Voucher and Kazang. They work the same way and differ mainly in which retail networks sell them, which is the thing that actually matters when you are standing in a shop.

Why you cannot withdraw to a voucher 💸

This is the one thing to understand before you use a voucher, because it surprises people at exactly the wrong moment.

A voucher is anonymous cash value. It is not tied to a verified identity. Licensed operators must pay winnings to an account verified as belonging to you, and a voucher cannot satisfy that.

So the practical shape is: you can deposit with a voucher, but you will withdraw to a bank account in your own name. If you do not have a bank account set up on your profile, your winnings have nowhere to go. Sort that out when you open the account, not when you are trying to cash out.
