Tropical Tiki is a 2022 island slot from Pragmatic Play on six reels of three rows, paying on ways from the left. Its tumble works the other way round from most: after a win the winning symbols and the scatters stay, and everything else drops away and is replaced. How Tropical Tiki works
Tropical Tiki has six reels of three rows. The rules pay "left to right adjacent symbol combinations of any size", starting from the leftmost reel, and with three rows on six reels that is 729 ways in the base game (our count, 3 to the sixth power).
The rules name no symbols; by our description of their pictures there are three tiki masks in red, green and blue, three fruits (a dragon fruit, a green fruit and a coconut), and the letters A, K, Q, J and the number 10. The golden mask with the word SCATTER is the scatter, which lands only on reels two to five. The rules list no wild symbol. Pragmatic's game page calls the masks "Mischievous Moai".
Tropical Tiki paytable in multiples of the total bet

The reverse tumble: winners stay, the rest falls away
In most tumbling slots a winning combination is removed and the gap is filled. Tropical Tiki keeps it. The rules say that "all symbols from all winning combinations and all SCATTERS lock on the screen and non winning symbols disappear"; what remains falls to the bottom and the empty spots are filled from above. Pragmatic's launch post calls it "reverse-tumbling reels".
The sequence goes on while it keeps growing: if new symbols of the same type, or new scatters, join the locked ones, they stay too and the reels tumble again. In the rules' words, "Tumbling ends when there are no new symbols added to the existing winning combinations", and the wins reach the balance only after the last tumble.
By our reading of that rule, because the winning symbols stay, a three of a kind can grow into a six of a kind over the tumbles. Three blue masks on a R2 spin pay R0.56; six pay R2 (our arithmetic from the table above). Scatters lock in the same way, so the count can rise over the tumbles of one spin; the rules allow up to ten scatters from a base game spin.
What the scatters pay, in multiples of the bet and in rand

Free spins: a 5x6 grid that opens one spot at a time 🎁
Four or more scatters give 8 free spins, however many land. During the round the grid is five rows by six reels, and the rules say that at the start "the top most rows have all positions locked". On every free spin one locked position opens at random, and symbols can then land there, which adds ways. At most 8 positions open in a round, and the rules put the top at 6,400 possible ways.
By our reading the three rows of the base game stay open and the two rows above start closed. Eight opened spots can give two reels five rows and four reels four rows, and 5 x 5 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 is 6,400 (our arithmetic); the game's intro screen shows a grid of that shape.
The rules add that special reels are in play during the feature and that the feature cannot be retriggered: the 8 spins are all there is.
Buying the free spins
The third rules page offers the round straight from the base game for 100x the current total bet, R200 on a R2 spin (our arithmetic). The spin that starts it always shows exactly four scatters and does not tumble. The fourth page gives a separate RTP for play that uses the purchase: 96.20%, against the game's theoretical 96.43%.
Return, volatility and the 3,000x cap 📊
Both the Tropical Tiki game page and the fourth rules page of the demo state a return of 96.43%. A MEDIUM VOLATILITY label sits on the intro screen and on that same rules page, which explains the label as games that "pay out steadily and the range of pays varies from low to very high".
A round cannot pay more than 3,000x the bet. The third rules page: "The maximum win amount is limited to 3,000x bet. If the total win of a round reaches 3,000x bet the round immediately ends, win is awarded and all remaining features are forfeited." At R2 a spin, the ceiling works out to R6,000 by our arithmetic.
Pays scale with the stake, so a bigger bet moves the rand figures, not the percentage return; no way of sizing bets gets round the house edge.
