Parthenon: Quest for Immortality in South Africa: Wild Zone, Avalanches and x20

NetEnt RTP 96.03% 4.8 /5

4.8/5. Computed from what we could verify about Parthenon: Quest for Immortality, not from our own play.

Parthenon: Quest for Immortality is a NetEnt slot on six reels, four symbols high on the outer two and five high on the four between them, with 10,000 bet ways. Every win starts an Avalanche, and a winning symbol in the top row of reels 2 to 5, the Wild Generation Zone, turns into a wild. Three scatters start 8 free spins, where each symbol that turns wild raises a win multiplier by one, up to x20. NetEnt's game page puts the hit frequency at 23%.

A still from NetEnt's promo video for Parthenon: Quest for Immortality, in the base game: the top row above the middle four reels shows WILD, WILD, an A and WILD, several cells below are empty at this moment, and the plaques at the top corners read W and x1. The win field shows 103.00 at a bet of 1.00; this client counts in euro.

A later moment of the same video, in free spins: the plaque at the top right reads x5, the top row of the fourth and fifth reels shows two WILDs, and a gold gem fills the cell below the fourth reel's WILD. A blue gem with a plus sign, which in the video has just left that cell and is flying off down to the right, is passing over the A below it. Both the counter at the bottom and the round medallion on the right read FREE SPINS 6. Win 6.60 at a bet of 1.00, marked PLAYING FOR FUN.

How Parthenon: Quest for Immortality works

The six reels are not the same height: reels 1 and 6 show four symbols, reels 2 to 5 show five. The game's help puts the bet ways at 10,000, also our product of the heights, 4 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 4. A bet way win needs the same symbol in any position on three or more adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost, without a gap. Extra copies on those reels add ways: in the help's example, Medusa heads on reels 1 to 4, one, three, one and two of them, pay on 1 x 3 x 1 x 2 = 6 ways. Only the longest combination per symbol is paid.

The pictures in the game's help show a golden Medusa head, four medallions (a ship on red, a winged horse on purple, a snake on green, a trident on blue) and A, K, Q, J and 10 in coloured stone, the wild as the word WILD over a flaming bowl and the scatter as a FREE SPINS tile framed by laurel. Paytable values change with the stake.

One paid spin, step by step

The order comes from the game's help and NetEnt's game page.

  1. The reels stop
Wins are counted on all 10,000 bet ways. Without a win, no Avalanche follows.
  2. Winners leave, the zone keeps its own
Symbols in winning combinations disappear. A winning symbol in the top row of reels 2 to 5 transforms into a wild instead, after the wins are evaluated and before the next Avalanche.
  3. An Avalanche fills the gaps
A new Avalanche of symbols falls into the space left, and the Avalanches continue until there are no more wins on the reels.
  4. Scatters are counted
Three scatters anywhere activate 8 free spins, and each additional scatter in the main game adds 4 more, after all Avalanches have happened.

The Wild Generation Zone

The zone is the top row of reels 2 to 5, four positions, and it works in the main game and in free spins alike. Reels 1 and 6 are a row shorter, and the help's pictures draw the zone as a row of four above their tops.

Its wilds substitute for every symbol except the scatter. NetEnt's page says they remain on the reels until they disappear as part of a winning combination or until the next spin, so by our reading a wild made in one drop can help form a win in the next. In free spins, each symbol that turns wild also raises a multiplier, below.

Free spins per number of scatters 🎁

Free spins: a collect meter and a multiplier to x20 🎁

Free spins are played at the stake of the spin that activated them, and their total is added to that spin's win at the end.

At the end of each free spin, once the Avalanches have stopped, every scatter on the reels adds a point to a collect meter; at 3, you get 2 more free spins and the meter goes back to 0.

The Free Spins Multiplier starts at x1. Each symbol that transforms into a wild raises it by 1, up to x20, and all bet way wins are multiplied by its current value. The rise comes after the wins are evaluated, so by our reading the win that makes a wild is paid at the old value and the next drop at the new one. NetEnt calls it a progressive multiplier, and the help names no reset of it during the round.

What the numbers say about a session

NetEnt's 23% hit frequency means, by our arithmetic, a little under one spin in four pays something. It counts how often spins pay, not how much.

NetEnt's page shows a medium volatility badge, the label this page uses, and Evolution's site says high. Both give the return as 96.03%; the game's own help states, under Return to Player, the theoretical return of the game you open.

NetEnt gives two top-win figures. Its page's figures list 'Max payout' as 4,600 x bet, and its description, repeated on Evolution's site, speaks of wins 'as high as 5,000x your stake'. As the two differ, this page names no single maximum.

No staking pattern or betting system beats the house edge, so pick a stake your budget can sustain for the session.

Parthenon, not Pyramid

NetEnt also lists Pyramid: Quest for Immortality, a separate game with its own figures: its NetEnt page dates it 22 January 2015 and gives it five reels and 720 bet ways. This review covers Parthenon, and the operators listed on this page are those where we have found it.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️

Pros
  • Winning symbols in the top row of reels 2 to 5 turn wild
  • Each wild made in free spins adds 1 to the multiplier, up to x20
  • A collect meter adds free spins during the round
Cons
  • No bonus buy
  • By our arithmetic, about three spins in four pay nothing
  • NetEnt publishes two top-win figures, 4,600x and 5,000x

Parthenon: Quest for Immortality builds its play around one row: winning symbols at the top of reels 2 to 5 become wilds, the wilds carry into the next Avalanche, and in free spins each one pushes the multiplier towards x20. It suits a player who likes cascading reels and a round that builds; anyone after a bonus buy will find none listed by NetEnt.

Parthenon: Quest for Immortality FAQ ❓

How do you trigger free spins in Parthenon: Quest for Immortality?

Three scatters, the FREE SPINS tiles, anywhere on the reels in the main game activate 8 free spins, and each additional scatter adds 4 more, after all Avalanches have happened.

How does the free spins multiplier work?

It starts at x1. Each symbol that turns into a wild raises it by 1, up to x20, once the wins are evaluated, and every bet way win is multiplied by its current value.

What is the Wild Generation Zone?

The top row of reels 2 to 5. A symbol there that is part of a win turns into a wild before the next Avalanche, and stays until it is part of a win itself or the spin ends.

Can free spins be extended?

Yes. At the end of each free spin, every scatter on the reels adds a point to a collect meter; when it reaches 3, you get 2 more free spins and the meter goes back to 0.

What is the maximum win?

NetEnt gives two figures: 'Max payout' 4,600 x bet among its game page's figures, and 'as high as 5,000x your stake' in the same page's description. As they differ, this page names no single maximum.
