How Buffalo King Megaways works
Buffalo King Megaways has six reels, and each spin sets how many symbols every reel shows. Reels one and six hold up to seven; reels two to five hold up to eight, because a top row, spinning on its own from right to left, adds a symbol above each of them. Multiplied together, the six heights give the ways. By our arithmetic, 7x8x8x8x8x7 is the 200,704 maximum in the rules, and the official demo's opening screen, with columns of 6, 8, 6, 7, 5 and 5 symbols, gives the 50,400 its ways counter reads.
A win is a run of matching symbols from the leftmost reel through the adjacent reels, one symbol per reel, in any position; the diagram on the rules screen crosses out a run broken on reel three. Each way pays only its highest win, and wins on different ways are added together.
Every win sets off a tumble: the winning symbols disappear, the rest fall, and new ones drop in at the same size as the spin's first result, so the reels keep their heights. It repeats until a tumble brings no new win, and wins reach the balance when the sequence ends.
The game's screens say Megaways is used under licence; Pragmatic announced the Megaways partnership with Big Time Gaming in April 2020.

What the paytable and wild add up to
- Two buffaloes already pay. The buffalo is the only symbol with a pay for two of a kind: 1x the total bet, R2 back on a R2 spin. Every other symbol in the paytable starts at three.
- One way on its own pays little. Six of a card rank return 0.6x to 1x the total bet, three 0.1x or 0.2x; a spin's total depends on how many ways win at once and on the tumbles that follow.
- The wild skips the outer reels. It replaces every symbol except the bonus but lands only on reels two to five, so a way win always starts with the symbol itself on reel one, and six of a kind needs it on reel six too.
- Bonus symbols pay as well as trigger. They appear on all reels and count anywhere: four, five or six pay 5x, 20x or 100x the total bet, R10, R40 or R200 on a R2 spin.
Free spins: wild multipliers that multiply each other 🎁
Four, five or six bonus symbols start the round with 12, 17 or 22 free spins. In it, wilds land with a random multiplier of 2x, 3x or 5x; the rules give the wild a multiplier only in this round.
Each time a wild is part of a winning combination, its multiplier goes into a tumble multiplier indicator. The multipliers collected in one tumble sequence are multiplied by each other, not added, and when the sequence ends the result applies to its total win.
By our arithmetic, a 2x and a 3x wild make 6x, two 5x wilds make 25x and three make 125x, where adding would give 5x, 10x and 15x. At a R2 bet, R4 of wins with two 5x wilds in them becomes R100 on the same arithmetic.
Three or more bonus symbols in the round add 5 free spins, with no limit on retriggers, and the rules add that special reels are in play during the round. If the round's total reaches 5,000 times the bet, it ends at once: the win is paid and the spins left are forfeited.
Ante bet or bonus buy, priced in rand 🎁
The ante, labelled Double Chance to Win Feature, moves the bet multiplier from 20x to 25x: a R2 spin costs R2.50. The rules say it doubles the natural chance of free spins and puts more bonus symbols on the reels, while symbols pay as for the 20x bet, so six buffaloes stay at R40. With the ante on, the rules screen reads 4,000x bet and the bet display R2.50; by our arithmetic, 4,000 x R2.50 and 5,000 x R2 both make R10,000.
In the official demo, the buy button offers the round for 100 times the total bet, R200 on a R2 spin, and greys out while the ante is on. A bought round lands 4, 5 or 6 bonus symbols at random, for 12, 17 or 22 free spins.
The demo's rules give 96.52% for normal play, 96.49% with the ante and 96.50% for the buy; the i button opens those rules in the game. The options change how you pay for the round, barely move the return, and no pattern of switching between them beats the house edge.
