A later moment of the same video: six marbles stacked in a glass column set in a chequered silver wall, black at the top, then yellow, white, green, blue and red. The video does not say what the column stands for, so we do not read it as a race result.

How a Marble Race round works

Six marbles take part in every race, one of each colour: black, red, yellow, blue, green and white. Evolution's news describes the course as a custom-made race track created exclusively by the studio, and its rules say the marbles travel through various obstacles on the way to the finish line.

A round starts with the betting time. When it ends, the marbles are gathered in randomised starting positions, the game host starts the round by opening the gates, and the race runs. There is nothing to do during the race itself: you watch, and the order at the finish settles every bet.

Evolution's rules end the round when at least two marbles have crossed the finish line, so every round has a first and a second place. The same condition makes a round valid. If the game malfunctions, the round and all its payouts are void and the bets are returned.

The two Marble Race bets, their payouts and RTP 📊

Payouts and RTP as Evolution's help for the game gives them. Each bet sits on its own betting grid.

BetBetting gridYou win whenPayoutRTP
1st Place Regular Your colour crosses the finish line first 4.75:1 95.83%
1st & 2nd Place Compound Your two colours finish first and second, in the order on the bet spot 27:1 93.33%

What 4.75:1 and 27:1 say about each marble's chance

The help names the 1st Place bet as the one its optimal RTP of 95.83% is based on. The two figures fit together in a simple way. By our arithmetic, a R10 winner bet at 4.75:1 returns R57.50 when it wins, and 95.83% of R60 is also R57.50: the published return is what you get if each of the six marbles wins one race in six on average. The pair bet works the same way. Six marbles give 30 possible first-and-second pairs in order (6 x 5, our count), and a pair paying 27:1 returns 28 times the stake, which is 93.33% of 30.

That is our reading of Evolution's numbers, not a rule the help states in words. It does mean the colour of a marble carries no price of its own: the payout is the same whichever colour you choose. It also means covering more spots changes how often you win, not the return. Spread R10 over each of the six colours and one of them wins every race: R57.50 comes back for R60, by our arithmetic, and no pattern of colours or stakes turns either figure into an edge.

Between the two bets, the winner bet keeps more of the money in play on average (95.83% against 93.33%), while the pair bet pays bigger and less often. If the 93.33% rests on 30 equally likely pairs, as our reading above suggests, a given pair would come in about once in 30 races; Evolution does not say so itself.

Switching grids and reading the statistics

The screen offers two betting grids and two kinds of numbers about the table. All of the numbers describe past rounds or the current bets.

  • Regular and Compound grids. You move between the grids with the view-switching button. The help allows a switch from Compound back to Regular only when you have no bets, or only bets that the Regular grid also shows.
  • Statistics view. Shows how often each colour finished first over the recent rounds and the latest winners, newest on the left. The extended view adds how often each colour came second and the six most frequent winning pairs, over a number of rounds you choose.
  • Bet Statistics. During the round, each bet spot shows the total wagered on it and how many players placed bets there. It tells you what the table is backing, not what will win.
  • On the result screen. With the Regular grid active you see the winning marble; with the Compound grid active you see that round's first and second places.

Marble Race, EZ Marble Race and Race Track are three different games

Evolution premiered Marble Race at ICE Barcelona, in the same group of releases as Race Track, and called them two very different racing titles. Race Track is the studio's random-number horse race with six of 50 racers and payouts that change every race. In Marble Race the payouts stay as listed, the six runners are always the same six colours, and the result is the order in which they reach the finish of the track.

Evolution's games site also lists EZ Marble Race Las Vegas under its Ezugi brand. That page describes five marbles and races that are pre-recorded, so its rules and payouts belong to that game, not to this one. If the tile in your casino names Ezugi, five marbles or Las Vegas, read the rules of that table rather than this page.

Marble Race RTP and volatility

Evolution gives Marble Race's return to player as 93.33% - 95.83% depending on the bet.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️

Pros
  • Two bets, both explained in a single line of the rules
  • Fixed payouts by Evolution's help: 4.75:1 for the winner, 27:1 for an exact pair
  • The statistics view shows colours over a number of rounds you choose
Cons
  • No side features or multipliers, so the payout never grows
  • The pair bet returns less on average than the winner bet
  • Statistics of past races can look like a pattern that the next race ignores

Marble Race strips a casino game down to a race: six colours, fixed prices and a finish line. The winner bet at 4.75:1 is the better-returning of the two by Evolution's own figures; the exact pair pays more and loses more on average. Treat the colour statistics as history of the track, not as a tip.

Marble Race FAQ ❓

What is the RTP of Marble Race?

Evolution's help gives 95.83% for the 1st Place bet, which it names as the basis of the game's optimal RTP, and 93.33% for the 1st & 2nd Place bet. The figure depends on which of the two bets you place, not on the colour you pick.

How much does a winning marble pay in Marble Race?

A 1st Place bet pays 4.75:1 by Evolution's help, so by our arithmetic R10 on the winning colour returns R57.50, the stake included. A correct 1st & 2nd Place bet pays 27:1, which turns R10 into R280.

Does it matter which colour I choose?

Not for the price: every colour pays the same 4.75:1 on the Regular grid. The starting positions are randomised before each race, and the statistics view only shows how often each colour has won recently.

When does a Marble Race round end?

When at least two marbles have crossed the finish line, which is also the condition for a valid round. If the game malfunctions, Evolution's rules void the round and its payouts and return the bets.

Is EZ Marble Race the same game?

No. EZ Marble Race Las Vegas is listed under Evolution's Ezugi brand, with five marbles and pre-recorded races. Marble Race has six marbles, a game host who opens the gates, and its own payouts.
