Dream Catcher in South Africa: 54 Segments, 2x and 7x Multipliers and the RTP of Each Bet
Dream Catcher is Evolution's live money wheel, launched at the ICE show in London in February 2017. A game host spins an upright wheel of 54 segments and you bet on the number it stops on: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 or 40, each paying that many to one. Two more segments, 2x and 7x, send the wheel round again with the next payout multiplied. Evolution's rules give each number its own RTP, from 89.88% on 40 to 95.65% on 10.

How Dream Catcher works
Dream Catcher is a money wheel with a game host. The upright wheel is divided into 54 equal segments separated by pins: 52 carry a number, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 or 40, each in its own colour, and the other two are the silver 2x and the gold 7x multipliers. While betting time runs, you put chips on one or more of six bet spots, one per number, and then the host spins.
A flapper at the top marks the winning segment. If it rests between two, Evolution's rules give the round to the segment it was passing, in the direction of the spin. Winning bets are paid on a to-one basis at the odds of their number, so a winning R10 on 5 brings back R50 plus the stake, and the bets on the other numbers lose.
Evolution's own page calls it "an unequal game of chance". The 1 has 23 segments and the 40 has one, and the return to player is different for every number you can back.

How the 2x and 7x segments work
A stop on 2x or 7x settles nothing yet. Every bet stays in place, no new bets are accepted and the host spins again. The next number pays its usual odds multiplied by two or by seven, so a bet on 10 is paid 20 to 1 after a 2x, or 70 to 1 after a 7x.
Multipliers in a row stack. Evolution's own example: 2x, then 7x, then 5 pays a bet on 5 at (5 to 1) x 2 x 7, which is 70 to 1. The rules set no limit on how many follow each other, only "a default maximum win displayed in the limits panel", and the game page speaks of multiplied payouts of up to 20,000x. Evolution's clip "Dream Catcher Big Win 2x, 7x, 7x, 7x" shows four in a row before a 5. While they stack, the 5 spot reads PAYS 5x686 and 3,430x, and the 40 spot reads 20,000x MAX PAYOUT. Our sums: 2 x 7 x 7 x 7 = 686, and 40 x 686 would be 27,440.
How often they land is our arithmetic from the segment counts, not an Evolution figure. A multiplier comes up about one spin in 27, and two in a row open a round about once in 729. A round always ends on a number, so each number takes its segments out of 52 of finished rounds: 23 in 52 for the 1, 1 in 52 for the 40.

The percentages are Evolution's; the rand amounts and round counts are our arithmetic, long-run averages rather than a forecast for one evening.
- 10 is the cheapest bet. Evolution's rules call 95.65% on number 10 the optimal RTP of the game: about R4.35 kept by the house for every R100 staked, over a long run.
- 40 is the dearest. One segment, 40 to 1 and 89.88%, or about R10.12 kept per R100. It finishes about one round in 52.
- 1 and 2 win often and pay little. The 1 ends about 23 rounds in 52 but pays 1 to 1 and returns 95.24%; the 2 returns 95.31%. The 5 (90.42%) and the 20 (91.80%) cost more than the 1, the 2 or the 10.
- BET ON ALL is not a hedge. The button puts your chip on all six spots. One bet wins every round, but R1 on each costs R6, and a round that ends on a plain 1 returns R2. With equal chips, our average of Evolution's six figures is 93.05%, below the 10 alone.
- No system changes the price. Doubling after a loss or chasing a number that has not come up does not move these figures: each chip carries the RTP Evolution gives its number. No staking pattern or system beats the house edge.
Where Dream Catcher came from
Evolution launched Dream Catcher live at the ICE exhibition in London on 7 February 2017, on a bespoke wheel TCSJOHNHUXLEY built exclusively for Evolution. Its company timeline lists it as the game that created the Live Game Shows category, and in October 2017 it was named Digital Product of the Year in the Global Gaming Awards at G2E Las Vegas.
In the launch release Todd Haushalter, Evolution's chief product officer, said a plain lucky wheel had a house advantage that "was too high", and that the 2x and 7x multipliers brought it "in line with other online slots".

Evolution says Dream Catcher has the simplest rules of any casino game: one wheel, six numbers and two multiplier segments. It also prints the price of each bet, and the spread is wide, from 95.65% on the 10 to 89.88% on the 40, so the number you back matters more than any pattern you follow.
