Crazy Time in South Africa: The Four Bonus Rounds Explained
Crazy Time is Evolution's live game show built around a money wheel, launched in July 2020. It looks chaotic and is actually simple: you are betting on where a wheel stops, and nine of its 54 segments take you into one of four bonus games.

How Crazy Time works
A presenter spins a large vertical wheel of 54 segments. Before the spin, you place bets on which kind of segment it will stop on. If you backed the right one, you are paid at that segment's odds.
Most segments are plain numbers, 45 of the 54: the 1, 2, 5 and 10, paying 1 to 1, 2 to 1, 5 to 1 and 10 to 1. Back the number, the wheel lands on it, you are paid. Simple betting on a wheel, no different in principle from roulette.
At the same time as the wheel, a two-reel Top Slot spins on a screen above it. It picks one bet spot, a number or a bonus, and one multiplier. If the two line up and the wheel then stops on that spot, the payout is multiplied: a number's odds, or the multiplier won in that bonus game. Evolution's rules have a South African version in which the same feature is called the Top Position.
The other nine segments are bonuses, and they are why the game exists. Landing on one takes you out of the wheel and into a separate round with its own rules, its own multipliers and its own setting: a wall of pegs, a two-sided coin, a screen of 108 hidden multipliers or a virtual world behind a red door. Crucially, you only take part in a bonus round if you had a bet on that bonus when it came up.
That last rule is the one that catches people. Watching a spectacular bonus round play out while you had no bet on it is the normal experience of this game, and it is exactly what makes people bet on all four bonuses every spin, which is expensive.
The four bonus rounds 🎁
Each is a different format, and the multiplier you win is decided inside the round. Evolution gives two ceilings: 10,000x in Pachinko and 20,000x in the Crazy Time round. Beyond that, each table caps what one player can win in a round, and its Bet Limits panel shows the amount.
- Cash Hunt. A wall of 108 multipliers, covered by symbols and shuffled. Everyone who qualified aims a cannon at one spot before the countdown ends and wins what was behind it; if you do not pick, the game picks for you. Everyone sees the same wall, so two players in the same round can win different multipliers. Evolution's own page names a 25,000x Cash Hunt multiplier, on 11 December 2022, as one of the largest Crazy Time wins.
- Pachinko. A puck drops through a wall of pegs onto one of 16 multipliers at the bottom. Landing on DOUBLE doubles every multiplier on the wall and the puck drops again, until the multipliers reach 10,000x. The closest thing in the game to Plinko.
- Coin Flip. Two multipliers, one on the red side of a coin and one on the blue, and the side facing up pays. When the multipliers are low, Evolution occasionally flips the coin again, which it calls a Rescue Flip. The simplest of the four.
- Crazy Time. The headline round, behind a red door: a virtual wheel of 64 segments with three flappers, green, blue and yellow, and you pick one before it spins. A DOUBLE or TRIPLE under your flapper multiplies every value on the wheel and spins it again for you, up to 20,000x. One segment in 54 on the main wheel, the rarest to land.
Bet on Four: what covering every bonus costs 🎁
Because you only enter a bonus round if you had that bonus covered, the instinct is to cover all four every spin. The game even has a button for it, Bet on Four. It feels like insurance.
It is not insurance, it is four additional bets per spin. Nine of the 54 segments are bonuses, and Evolution puts the chance of a bonus round at one spin in six, so on five spins in six all four bonus bets lose. They are also the bets that return least. By Evolution's own figures the 1 returns 96.08%, the 2 95.95%, the 5 95.78% and the 10 95.73%, while Coin Flip returns 95.70%, Cash Hunt 95.27%, Crazy Time 94.41% and Pachinko 94.33%. A player covering everything is spending several times more per spin than a player backing numbers, in exchange for not missing out.
There is no correct answer here, because 'not missing out' is a real thing people are willing to pay for. But it should be a decision. Work out what covering all four costs per spin, multiply it by the number of spins in an hour, and see whether that is the evening you wanted.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️
- Four genuinely different bonus formats, not four reskins
- Entertaining to watch even between your own bets
- The Top Slot can multiply any bet spot, numbers included
- You only join a bonus round if you backed that exact bonus
- Covering everything multiplies your cost per spin
- The four bonus bets return the least: 94.33% to 95.70%, against 96.08% on the 1
- Live streaming makes it heavy on prepaid mobile data
Crazy Time is a show first: four different bonus rounds and a Top Slot multiplier on every spin. The trap is structural: the game is designed so that missing out hurts, and the remedy it offers you is to bet more. Decide what you are covering and what it costs per spin before you start, and it is a good evening. Decide it spin by spin and it is an expensive one.
Crazy Time FAQ ❓
Do I join a bonus round if I did not bet on it?
No. You take part only if you had a bet on that specific bonus segment for that spin.
What are the four bonus rounds?
Cash Hunt, Pachinko, Coin Flip and Crazy Time. Each is a separate format with its own multipliers.
Should I cover all four bonus segments?
That is four extra bets every spin, on segments that come up one spin in six between them, and they are the four bets with the lowest return in the game. It is a legitimate choice, but work out the cost per hour before treating it as insurance.
What is the biggest win in Crazy Time?
Evolution publishes no single top win for the whole game. The multipliers in the Crazy Time round top out at 20,000x and in Pachinko at 10,000x, every table caps what one player can win in a round, and Evolution's own page names a 25,000x Cash Hunt multiplier from 11 December 2022 as one of the largest wins.
