How Laughing Buddha works
Five reels of three rows carry 28 lines, and none can be switched off: a spin costs 28 coins times the bet level, so the coin size and the bet level are the only two dials on the stake. Wins count along a line from reel one to the right, each line keeps only its best win, and separate lines add up.
The paytable is short. Four pictures sit on top, the Laughing Buddha, a golden dragon, a gold ingot and a jade ruyi sceptre, with the card ranks A to 10 below. Five Buddhas on a line pay 1,000 line bets, 35.7 times the total bet by our division; three Q, J or 10 pay 5 line bets, which by the same division is less than a fifth of the spin.
The wild is a pearl stamped WILD. It stands in for everything but the scatter, pays like the Buddha on a line of its own, and reveals an x2 or x3 multiplier at random, which then multiplies the win it is part of. With two such wilds in one win, only the highest multiplier counts. The scatter is a golden pot that lands only on reels 1, 3 and 5: three pay one total bet wherever they fall and open the free games.
What each symbol pays on a R5.60 spin
Habanero's rules screen prints each line pay as money at the current bet. The rand columns show those amounts for a R5.60 spin, the opening bet of Habanero's demo: 28 coins of 0.20 at bet level 1, so a line bet of 0.20. The last column is our division of the five-symbol pay by that total bet. A wild's x2 or x3 multiplies any win it joins.

The free games: three pots and one choice
Three pots award 8 free games. Each pot then reveals one of the nine regular symbols, from the Buddha down to the 10, and the game asks you to choose the expanding symbol. In every free game, wherever that symbol lands, it expands to cover its reel before anything is paid. The expansion skips wilds and scatters: they stay where they landed.
The rules state no exception for this round to the general rule that 'line wins pay if in succession from the leftmost reel to the right', so a covered reel pays only as part of a line that starts on reel one. The free games play at the lines and bet of the triggering spin, and a retrigger keeps the symbol you chose.
Which symbol should you choose?
On the paytable the Buddha looks like the obvious pick: five pay 1,000 line bets, against 30 for five 10s. The paytable is not the whole story, though: neither the rules nor the Help screen says how often each symbol lands in the free games.
What the Help screen does say is that the RTP 'can not be affected by the player strategy (unless stated otherwise)', and it states nothing otherwise for this game. Habanero's help texts have a line for games where a pick matters, 'The maximum RTP can be achieved by choosing the ... symbol in the pick feature'; Laughing Buddha's Help does not carry it. On Habanero's own wording, then, the pick is not a route to a higher theoretical return: it decides which symbol fills the reels, so choose the one you like watching. No symbol, stake size or staking pattern beats the house edge.
Buying the free games: the price and the return
The Buy Feature button above the reels goes straight to the free games. Habanero's rules set the price at 1,300 line bets and show it as money: 260 at the demo's opening bet of 5.60. That is R260 on a R5.60 spin, or 46.4 times the total bet by our division. The price moves with the stake.
For that price, only three scatters land and trigger 8 initial free games, and the free games rules then apply as when three pots land on their own: each pot reveals a symbol and you pick one. The demo's Help screen gives the bought round a theoretical RTP of 96.57%, against 96.64% for normal play, so at the demo's setting buying returns slightly less, not more.
