Pumpkin Patch in South Africa: Two-Way Lines, Pumpkin Wilds and a Corn Counter
Pumpkin Patch is a Habanero slot dated 2018 on the studio's own site: five reels of three rows and 25 fixed lines that pay from either end. A squirrel beside a pumpkin turns it wild, and a crow beside one fills the pumpkin's reel with wilds. Corn cobs in base-game wins add to a counter of free games, and three scarecrows cash it in with every prize tripled. Habanero rates the volatility medium and lists a maximum multiplier of x1,316.

How Pumpkin Patch pays
The rules screen of Habanero's free demo: 'Play 25 lines fixed at a cost of 25 coins'. Its Help multiplies that by the bet level (1, 2, 5, 7 or 10), with coins from 0.01 to 20.
A line can be read from either end. Wins 'pay if in succession from the leftmost reel to the right, or if in succession from the rightmost reel to the left', and 'only the highest win on each selected line from both directions is paid'. Five of a kind is paid once, not twice.
There are two wilds. The scarecrow in a purple hat and the green-framed WILD sign each 'substitutes for all symbols' and pay the same amounts. Only the scarecrow counts towards the three that start the free games.
What a line pays on a R12.50 spin
The rules screen of Habanero's free demo shows these amounts at its starting bet of 12.50 (25 coins at 0.50, bet level 1). We write them in rand, named the symbols from their pictures and divided each five-symbol pay by the total bet.

Small threes, and why the pumpkin matters
On a R12.50 spin no three of a kind covers the stake: the best threes pay R10, the card symbols R2.50. Four pumpkins or four wilds pay R125, ten times the spin. The pumpkin is the richest ordinary symbol and also the one the game converts: once a squirrel or crow touches it, it is a wild that completes other symbols' lines too.
Habanero lists x1,316 as the maximum multiplier, about R16,450 on a R12.50 spin by our arithmetic. Neither the page nor the rules screen says how that figure is reached: it is Habanero's number, not a cap written into the rules.
The squirrel, the crow and the pumpkin
The rules call this the Wild Feature; it runs before pays are awarded.
- Squirrel: one pumpkin. 'Any' squirrel 'appearing adjacent to a' pumpkin 'turns the' pumpkin 'into a' WILD symbol.
- Crow: the whole reel. 'Any' crow 'appearing adjacent to a' pumpkin 'expands the' pumpkin 'into' WILD 'symbols to cover all positions on the reel'.
- Several at once. 'Multiple combinations appearing on screen are performed in a random sequence.' The rules say 'adjacent' without a diagram of which neighbouring positions count.
The corn counter and the free games
The basket at the top of the screen holds a number of free games that grows before the feature starts. Habanero's page calls them 'pending free games'; the demo's rules call the count 'Free Games Collected'.
- The count 'starts on 8 for each bet configuration', and a bet configuration is 'the combined selection of coin and bet level'.
- Any corn cob 'appearing in a winning combination in the Base Game' is added to that count.
- Three or more scarecrows anywhere in the base game, 'excluding' WILD signs, trigger the free games; so does 'more than 30' corn symbols collected in the base game. Habanero's page: three scarecrows 'award the pending free games'.
- In the free games 'all prizes are Tripled', and they are 'played at the bet of the triggering game'. A corn cob in a winning combination is added to the 'Free Games Left' count, and three or more scarecrows award 'an additional 8 Free Games'.
- 'At the end of the Free Games Feature the count' is 'reset to 8 for the bet configuration'.
One counter per coin and bet level
The rules: corn symbols 'are saved for each bet configuration'. By our reading, each pair of coin and bet level keeps its own basket. Change the coin or the bet level and you see another count, starting at 8 if that pair has not been played; go back and the old count is there again, even where two pairs make the same total bet.
Nothing in the rules says a full basket makes three scarecrows more likely. No staking pattern beats the house edge, and switching bet levels to chase a count is one.
Jackpots, buys and casino extras
- Two meters in the demo's Help. A Minor and a Grand jackpot, each taking 0.25% of the bet, seeded at €50 and €5,000 and triggered at random; they 'cannot be won during Fun Play or Bonus Play'. The demo shows the Grand meter above the reels.
- The casino's choice. Habanero sells jackpots, Jackpot Race, Bonus Free Spins and UP Tournaments as tools a casino switches on; it may show any or none.
- Nothing to buy. Habanero's feature list crosses out SuperBet, Buy Feature and Feature Multiplier: scarecrows or the corn counter lead into the free games.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️
- Lines pay from either end, the higher of the two
- A squirrel or crow next to a pumpkin adds wilds in the same spin
- A visible counter shows how many free games the next feature will give
- Every prize in the free games is tripled
- No three of a kind pays as much as the R12.50 spin it lands on
- The counter is kept per coin and bet level pair, not shared between pairs
- The casino picks one of five RTP versions, the lowest near 86%
A medium-volatility line slot with two moving parts: pumpkins that animals turn into wilds, and a corn counter that decides how long the tripled free games last. Small threes keep the base game modest. Check the RTP your casino's Help states before playing for money; no betting system changes the house edge.
Pumpkin Patch FAQ ❓
How do you trigger free games in Pumpkin Patch?
