Dead or Alive 2 in South Africa: Three Free Spins Modes to Choose From
Dead or Alive 2 is NetEnt's Wild West slot from April 2019, the sequel to its 2009 Dead or Alive. It plays on five reels and three rows with 9 paylines, five outlaws as wilds and a scatter that pays from two symbols. Three scatters bring 12 free spins, and you choose how they play: Old Saloon, High Noon Saloon or Train Heist.

How Dead or Alive 2 works
The grid is five reels by three rows, and wins are paid on paylines. NetEnt's game page lists 9 as both the minimum and the maximum number of play lines, so by our reading all 9 lines are in play on every spin and there is no line count to set. Its bet range is €0.09 to €9.00 a spin.
Evolution's games site describes the symbols. The low-paying ones are the card values 10, J, Q, K and A, drawn as cast iron. The high-paying ones are Wild West gear: a bottle of moonshine, a pair of boots, a rope lasso and a hat, a revolver with ammunition, and the sheriff's star. The scatter shows two crossed revolvers below a steel skull.
The wilds are five outlaws. NetEnt says they substitute for all paying symbols on a single payline, in the main game and in the bonus games.
What the scatters pay
Scatter wins as NetEnt's game page lists them, in multiples of your original bet. The rand column is our arithmetic at a R0.90 spin, one of the stakes noted in the casino rows below.
| Scatters | NetEnt's figure | At R0.90 (our sum) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 2x the bet | R1.80 |
| 3 | 4x the bet, and free spins start | R3.60 |
| 4 | 25x the bet, and free spins start | R22.50 |
| 5 | 2,500x the bet, and free spins start | R2,250 |

The three free spins modes side by side 🎁
Each line paraphrases NetEnt's own description of the mode on its game page.
| Mode | What the wilds do | Extra spins |
|---|---|---|
| Old Saloon | Wilds are sticky and stay in place until the round ends; a 2x win multiplier applies to all wins | 5 more when 2 sticky wilds appear on the reels |
| High Noon Saloon | Wilds are sticky; 2 wilds on one reel become Double Multiplier Wilds, 3 on one reel Triple Multiplier Wilds | 5 more, in NetEnt's words when sticky wilds appear 'on each of the reels' |
| Train Heist | Each wild that lands fills one step of a multiplier bar | 5 more when the bar reaches 16 steps, the 16x win multiplier |
What the choice of mode changes
Old Saloon and High Noon Saloon both keep every wild in place until the round ends. Old Saloon doubles every win on top of that. For High Noon Saloon NetEnt names no multiplier on all wins; it turns two or three wilds on one reel into Double or Triple Multiplier Wilds, which stay sticky too.
NetEnt lists the sticky wilds for the two saloon modes, not for Train Heist. There, each wild that lands moves a multiplier bar one step, and the steps translate into a win multiplier; at 16 steps the multiplier is 16x and five more spins are added. NetEnt ties its largest figure to this mode: during Train Heist, it says, wins can reach up to 100,000x the original bet.
NetEnt publishes no return for each mode, so this page does not rank them, and no choice of mode or staking pattern beats the house edge.

What the 30% hit rate and high volatility mean 📊
NetEnt gives a hit frequency of 30%. If it counts every spin that pays something, that is roughly three paying spins in ten, by our arithmetic; the figure is silent on how big those wins are.
Both official sites label the volatility high, which in general means the results of a session swing more widely than on a low-volatility slot. Pick a stake your budget can carry for the spins you planned, and never raise it to chase losses.
NetEnt's page gives two different top figures: 'Max payout 1 600 x bet' in its facts panel, and 'up to 100,000x' in the game description and the Train Heist text. NetEnt calls neither a cap, so this page gives both as NetEnt's figures and sets neither as the maximum win.
Which Dead or Alive this page covers
NetEnt has several games in the series, each a separate game with its own page: Dead or Alive from 2009, this 2019 sequel, and Dead or Alive 3: Wanted from 2026. Casino lobbies also carry a separate tile named Dead or Alive 2 Feature Buy. This page and its casino list cover the tile named Dead or Alive 2.
NetEnt's game page answers 'Yes' to Feature buy-in, so open the game's help at your casino to see whether the version there offers a buy.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️
- A choice of three free spins modes, each with its own wild rule
- Scatters pay from two, up to 2,500x the bet for five
- A 30% hit frequency, as NetEnt states it
- 9 paylines, NetEnt's minimum and maximum alike, so no line count to set
- High volatility on both official sites
- The free spins need three scatters
- NetEnt's page gives two different top figures
- Other Dead or Alive titles and a Feature Buy tile share the name
Dead or Alive 2 keeps a plain 9-line base game and puts its character into the free spins, where you pick how the five outlaw wilds behave: sticky with every win doubled, sticky and turning into multipliers, or filling a bar toward 16x. It suits a player at ease with high volatility who wants a say in the bonus.
Dead or Alive 2 FAQ ❓
How do you trigger free spins in Dead or Alive 2?

Which free spins mode has the sticky wilds?
Old Saloon and High Noon Saloon. In both, a wild stays in place until the free spins end. Old Saloon adds a 2x multiplier to all wins; in High Noon Saloon two or three wilds on one reel become Double or Triple Multiplier Wilds.
How does the Train Heist multiplier work?
Every wild that lands fills one step of a multiplier bar, and the steps become a win multiplier. When the bar reaches 16 steps the multiplier is 16x and five more free spins are added. NetEnt says wins in this mode can reach up to 100,000x the bet.
What is Dead or Alive 2's RTP?
