Ultra Hold and Spin in South Africa: Three Reels, Expanding Wilds and Coin Respins
Ultra Hold and Spin is a three-reel fruit slot that Pragmatic Play released in September 2020, made together with Reel Kingdom. Three rows and five fixed lines carry a 7, a BAR, fruit and an X, plus a wild that grows to fill its reel. Three money coins stacked on the middle reel start a respin round in which diamonds worth 100x to 500x the bet can land on the outer reels. The rules screen rates it low volatility, with a theoretical RTP of 96.7%.

How Ultra Hold and Spin works
The intro screen of Pragmatic's official demo sums the game up as a "classic 3 reeler with 5 lines". The grid is three reels by three rows, and the bet menu reads "Betting on 5 lines", with no way to switch lines off. Lines 1, 2 and 3 are the middle, top and bottom rows; line 4 runs diagonally from the top left corner to the bottom right, and line 5 from the bottom left to the top right.
Wins are counted from the leftmost reel on adjacent reels. With only three reels, the paytable lists one prize per symbol: three on a line. Line wins are multiplied by the bet per line, a fifth of the total bet by our arithmetic, only the highest win on each line is paid, and wins on different lines are added together.
The symbols are a red 7, a BAR, a watermelon, a strawberry, a gold star, a plum, an orange, cherries and a dark X. The rules give the star no special role, so by our reading it is an ordinary line symbol here, not a scatter, and the X pays like the small fruit rather than acting as a blank.
Pragmatic's launch post says the game was developed in partnership with Reel Kingdom, after Ultra Burn and Hot to Burn.
Ultra Hold and Spin paytable for three on a line
The rules screen prints prizes in cash: at the demo's $2.00 total bet three 7s show $100.00. Dividing by 2 gives the multiples below (our arithmetic); the rand column is our sum for a R2 spin.
| Symbol | Three on a line | On a R2 spin |
|---|---|---|
| 7 or wild | 50x | R100 |
| BAR | 30x | R60 |
| Watermelon | 20x | R40 |
| Strawberry or star | 16x | R32 |
| Plum, orange, cherries or X | 4x | R8 |
The wild that fills its reel
The wild, WILD written in flames, substitutes for every symbol except the two money coins, and three wilds on a line pay 50x, like three 7s. Whenever a wild lands and can form a winning combination, it expands vertically to fill the whole reel.
Each of the five lines passes through every reel once, so by our reading a full wild reel touches all five and can complete several lines on the same spin.
Hold and Respin: three coins on the middle reel
The money symbols are a gold coin and a silver coin, each stamped with a crown. The rules say they appear only on the middle reel, and on every spin each takes a random value of 1x to 20x the total bet from a printed list: 1x to 12x in steps of one, then 14x, 16x, 18x and 20x. The launch post splits the range by colour, silver coins worth 1x to 9x and gold coins up to 20x; the rules screen does not.
When three coins fill the middle reel, the Hold and Respin bonus starts. The middle reel stays in place, the symbols on the other two reels fade away, and the values of the three coins go into the round's total. You then get four respins on special reels.
During the respins a diamond can appear, and the rules place it only on reels 1 and 3. Each diamond that lands takes a value of 100x, 200x, 300x, 400x or 500x the total bet, its value is added to the total, and the respins go back to four. The round ends when no respins are left, and the total collected is paid.
The launch post calls this the Free Spins round; the rules name it the Hold and Respin bonus, and this page follows the rules. Coins have no line pay in the paytable, so by our reading one or two coins on a normal spin pay nothing.
What the coin and diamond values mean on a R2 spin
Our arithmetic at a R2 total bet, from the values the rules list.
- Three coins are worth R6 to R120. At the lowest value, 1x each, the three coins that start the bonus add R6; at the highest, 20x each, they add R120, which is 60 times the bet.
- One diamond is worth R200 to R1,000. A diamond of 100x adds R200 and one of 500x adds R1,000.
- No diamond means the coins are the whole prize. Four respins without a diamond pay only the three starting coins. The rules give no odds for a diamond.
Low volatility, and the 500x and 2,460x figures 📊
The rules screen marks Ultra Hold and Spin low volatility and gives Pragmatic's definition beside it: such games "pay out more often in smaller amounts, while still having the chance to win big".
Two larger numbers come from Pragmatic's own pages. The game page says the diamond "can reward you with a flambéed prize of up to 500x your total bet", which matches the top diamond value in the rules. The 2020 launch post speaks of "significant wins of up to 2,460x their stake". That is Pragmatic's figure; the rules screens name no win limit, and this page does not treat either number as a ceiling.
No staking pattern changes when the coins or a diamond land, and none beats the house edge.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️
- A wild that can form a win expands to fill its whole reel
- Three coins on one reel are enough to start the respins
- Every diamond resets the respins to four and is worth 100x to 500x
- Low volatility by the rules screen, with five simple lines
- Three reels mean one prize per symbol, at most 50x the total bet for one line
- Without a diamond the bonus pays only the three starting coins
- No free spins, bonus buy or ante bet in the rules
- Hot to Burn Hold and Spin, with five reels and a wheel, is a different game
A compact three-reel fruit slot with two moving parts: a wild that expands when it can win, and a respin round started by three coins on the middle reel. The coins alone return 3x to 60x the bet by our arithmetic; the diamonds on the outer reels are where the 100x to 500x values sit. Choose it for its simplicity, check the tile, and set a budget first.
Ultra Hold and Spin FAQ ❓
How do you trigger the bonus in Ultra Hold and Spin?
Land three money coins on the middle reel, the only reel they appear on. The middle reel then holds, the other reels clear, and you get four respins. Each diamond that lands on reel 1 or 3 adds its value and resets the count to four.
What are the coins and the diamond worth?
By the rules, each coin takes a random value from 1x to 20x the total bet, and each diamond from 100x to 500x. At R2 a spin that is R2 to R40 for a coin and R200 to R1,000 for a diamond, by our arithmetic.
What is the maximum win in Ultra Hold and Spin?
The rules screens name no win limit. Pragmatic's game page puts a diamond at up to 500x the total bet, and its 2020 launch post speaks of wins of up to 2,460x. Both are Pragmatic's figures, not a cap stated in the rules.
Is it the same game as Hot to Burn Hold and Spin?
No. Hot to Burn Hold and Spin has five reels, 20 lines, five or more money symbols to trigger and a money wheel. Ultra Hold and Spin has three reels, five lines, coins only on the middle reel and diamonds on the outer reels.
