Siren's Spell in South Africa: Wild Reels and Upgrading Free Games
Siren's Spell is a Habanero slot, dated 2023 on the studio's own site: five reels of three and 25 fixed lines on the sea floor, with the siren as a wild who covers her whole reel. Three clam scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 award 15 free games, where line wins count down three counters in turn; as each one completes, turtles upgrade to sharks, then sharks to seahorses, then seahorses to jellyfish. Habanero rates the volatility very high and lists a maximum multiplier of x3,352.

How Siren's Spell works
Five reels of three rows carry 25 fixed lines, so a spin costs 25 coins times the bet level (1, 2, 5, 7 or 10 in Habanero's demo). Line wins pay 'in succession from the leftmost reel to the right', each line pays only its longest win, and wins for different combinations are added.
Four sea creatures in gold rings are the high symbols: a pink jellyfish at the top, then a red seahorse, a shark and a green turtle. Four shells pay less: a yellow scallop, a pink spiky shell, a teal spiral shell and a purple conch. The wild is the siren herself, trident in hand; the scatter is a red clam holding a pearl.
What each symbol pays on a R12.50 spin
Habanero's rules screen prints each pay as an amount at the current bet. We give in rand the amounts it shows at the demo's opening bet of 12.50 in fun money (0.50 a line); the last column is our division of the five-symbol pay by that stake.

| Symbol | Five on a line | Four | Three | Five, in total bets |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wild, the siren | R750 | - | - | 60x |
| Jellyfish | R750 | R40 | R15 | 60x |
| Seahorse | R150 | R30 | R10 | 12x |
| Shark | R75 | R25 | R5 | 6x |
| Turtle | R37.50 | R15 | R5 | 3x |
| Yellow scallop | R20 | R7.50 | R2.50 | 1.6x |
| Pink spiky shell | R15 | R5 | R2.50 | 1.2x |
| Teal spiral shell | R10 | R3.50 | R1.50 | 0.8x |
| Purple conch | R7.50 | R2.50 | R1.50 | 0.6x |
The siren wild and the clam scatters
The siren 'substitutes for all symbols except' the scatter, and any wild 'landing partially on a reel will nudge up or down to cover the reel entirely'. On the rules' payline chart every line crosses each reel once, so by our reading a covered reel stands in on all 25. The pay table lists a pay for five wilds only, the same as for five jellyfish.
Scatters 'appear on reels 1, 3 and 5' and 'only appear during the Base Game'. Three 'pay anywhere', three times the total bet, and award 15 free games; the pay table has nothing for one or two.
The free games and the Upgrade Feature
The 15 free games are played at the lines and bet of the triggering game, and the feature 'cannot be retriggered'. Inside them three 'upgrade abilities' activate in sequence, turtle, shark, then seahorse, each with its counter on screen. 'Each payline win decreases the counter for the active upgrade ability'; at zero the ability completes. When the turtle ability completes, all turtles upgrade to sharks for the remaining free games; the next two turn sharks into seahorses and seahorses into jellyfish. Every completed ability awards 15 more free games: 60 in the round if all three complete, by our sum.
By our reading of 'All ... symbols' in the rules, the upgrades build on each other: turtles that already became sharks move up to seahorses when the shark ability completes.
The rules give no starting value for the counters. Habanero's screenshots of the free games show three round badges above the reels: a blue shark, a dark shark silhouette with 32, 27 or 23 under it from shot to shot, and a dark seahorse silhouette with 40.
Buy Feature and Super Bet: prices and returns
The rules screen prints the Buy Feature price at the current bet: 626 at the demo's opening 12.50 in fun money. By our division that is 1,252 line bets or 50.08 total bets, R626 on a R12.50 spin. For that, '3 Scatter symbols will land and play as per the rules of the Free Game Feature'.
Super Bet, which the rules call an ante bet, shows 'the cost of each bet' on its button: 25 at the demo's 12.50, so by our arithmetic each spin costs double, R25 on a R12.50 spin. In return 'the odds of triggering the Free Games Feature are increased' and 'Wild symbols also appear more often during Free Games'; neither the rules nor the Help say by how much.
The Help in Habanero's demo gives 96.77% for the game, 96.62% 'if Feature Buy is enabled' and 96.63% 'if Super Bet is enabled'. Your casino's Help shows its own figures.
Habanero's game page marks SuperBet 'No', yet the game's rules have a Super Bet page, the demo shows its button and the Help an RTP for it. The Help's 'if ... is enabled' and the solutions page, which lists both among marketing tools 'run from Back Office', treat them as options: a casino may show both buttons, one or neither.
Habanero's x3,352 and a very high volatility 📊
Habanero rates the volatility very high and lists a maximum multiplier of x3,352, which is R41,900 on a R12.50 spin by our multiplication. For scale, the top line pay, five wilds or five jellyfish, is 60 total bets by our division.
How volatility differs from RTP is in our guide to RTP and volatility.
Around the reels: a race and tournaments
- Jackpot Race. Habanero's demo shows a Jackpot Race meter above the reels; its Help gives a five-minute race phase and says jackpots 'cannot be won during Fun Play or Bonus Play'. A casino sets a race up 'from Back Office', says Habanero's solutions page.
- UP Tournaments. Ticked on the game page; Habanero's screenshots show an 'UP' widget at the left edge with prizes left or a rank. A casino runs them or not.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️
- The siren wild nudges to cover her whole reel
- In the free games, line wins count down to upgrades of the sea creatures
- Each completed upgrade adds 15 free games
- Without a buy, the free games need a scatter on each of reels 1, 3 and 5
- No retrigger: extra games come from completed counters
- Five teal or purple shells return less than the stake, by our division
- RTP settings from about 86% to 98%, and the casino picks one
Siren's Spell saves its idea for the free games, where line wins move sea creatures up the pay table and each upgrade adds 15 games. No staking pattern beats the house edge; before playing for money, read your casino's RTP lines in Help.
Siren's Spell FAQ ❓
How do you trigger the free games in Siren's Spell?
Land three clam scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5. They pay three times the total bet and award 15 free games at the triggering bet. The feature cannot be retriggered; more games come from the Upgrade Feature.
How does the Upgrade Feature work?
In the free games each payline win lowers the counter of the active ability: turtle first, then shark, then seahorse. When the turtle counter reaches zero, all turtles become sharks for the remaining free games (the next two turn sharks into seahorses and seahorses into jellyfish), and 15 more free games are awarded.
What do the Buy Feature and Super Bet cost?
By our division of the rules screen's prices, the buy costs 1,252 line bets, R626 on a R12.50 spin, and lands three scatters; Super Bet doubles each spin's cost, R25 on R12.50, for better odds of free games and more wilds in them. A casino decides whether to offer either.
What is the maximum win on Siren's Spell?
Habanero's game page lists a maximum multiplier of x3,352, R41,900 on a R12.50 spin by our multiplication. The top line pay, five wilds or five jellyfish, is 60 total bets by our division.
