Buffalo Hold and Win in South Africa: Coins, Free Spins and a 1000x Grand
Buffalo Hold and Win is a Booming Games slot, the plain title of the studio's Buffalo Hold and Win line, without Extreme, Ultra, Twin or Polar in its name. Its rules name four features: Hold and Win, Major Free Spins, Quick Hit Bonuses and Stacked Wilds. Three scatters give eight free spins, and six or more gold coins start a Hold and Win round on a single grid of 15 places, where the coins can carry a Mini, a Major and, for a full grid, a 1000x Grand Bonus.

How the base game works
The game's rules call it a 5x3, 25-line video slot, and they count 15 places for coins, one per position. All 25 paylines stay active: the number cannot be changed. You win when identical symbols follow each other along a line starting on the left reel; a line pays only its highest win, and the wins of all lines in a spin are summed.
The paytable sorts the paying symbols into two groups it calls Majors and Minors. Its pictures show a buffalo, an eagle and a mountain lion among the portraits, a WILD plaque with horns, a SCATTER symbol showing a desert rock, and gold coins with a buffalo head, some numbered and some lettered MINI or MAJOR. The coins are what the rules call value symbols.
The wild stands in for every symbol except the scatter and the coins. It also comes as Stacked Wilds: stacks of three wilds that can show in part or in full, and only on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. Since a line is read from the left, the first reel always needs a symbol of its own.
Major Free Spins: the scatter bonus 🎁
The free spins are the bonus you reach through scatters. The game's paytable page for the feature states the trigger and the count; the rules add the rest.
-
Three scatters, eight spins
"3 Scatters trigger 8 Free Spins", in the paytable's words. The rules let scatters land only on reels 2, 3 and 4, so by our reading a trigger means one scatter on each of the three middle reels. -
A thinner set of symbols
During the free spins only Majors, wilds, scatters and coins can land. The Minors leave the reels for the length of the feature. -
More spins on the way
The rules say the free spins can be retriggered, and the game has a message for additional free spins won during the feature. The rules do not cap how many times that can happen.
Hold and Win, step by step
The second bonus is the coin round. Six or more coins in one spin start it, and the rules set it out like this.
-
Three spins, back to three with every coin
The round always starts with 3 spins, and every new coin that lands puts the count back to 3. Only coins appear on the reels, and each one stays where it lands. -
Coin values
1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 18x or 20x the bet, or 25x as a Mini Bonus and 100x as a Major Bonus. At most one Mini and one Major can be on the reels at any time. -
The end of the round
When the spins run out, or when all 15 places hold a coin, the sum of every value on show is paid. The Quick Hit Bonuses won during the round are paid at its end. -
The Grand
If all 15 coins land, the rules add a Grand Bonus of 1000x the bet on top of the coins.
Quick Hit Bonuses: Mini, Major and Grand
The rules group three fixed prizes under Quick Hit Bonuses, all won inside Hold and Win: a Mini Bonus coin pays 25x, a Major Bonus coin pays 100x, and landing all 15 coins pays the 1000x Grand. At R1 a spin that is R25, R100 and R1,000 (our arithmetic).
The same paytable page sets the text above a picture of three panels that read GRAND 1000x, MAJOR 150x and MINI 30x. The rules text, on that page and in the game rules, gives 25x and 100x, and this page goes by the rules. If your casino's version shows other figures, its own rules screen is the one that counts.
An example with the values in the paytable's picture of a full grid: thirteen numbered coins adding up to 75x, plus a Major and a Mini, come to 75 + 100 + 25 = 200x, and the Grand for 15 coins makes it 1,200x, or R1,200 at R1 a spin (our arithmetic, from a picture rather than a round).
Not the Extreme: what this original does differently
Booming Games lists Buffalo Hold and Win apart from Buffalo Hold and Win Extreme, Buffalo Hold and Win Extreme 10,000, Polar and Booming Buffalo Hold and Win Extreme 25,000, Ultra Buffalo Hold and Win and Twin Buffalo: Hold and Win, each with its own demo. On the studio's tile the logo of this one ends at HOLD AND WIN.
The rules differ in ways that matter. This game plays its coin round on one grid of 15 places, with no wheel and no extra grids to unlock, and it has free spins and stacked wilds, which the Extreme does not list. The coin values are a different set too, so read the rules of the tile you open.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️
- Two separate bonuses: eight free spins from three scatters and a coin round from six coins
- The rules list every coin value and the three fixed prizes
- Stacked wilds on four reels and a free spins set without the Minors
- The 1000x Grand needs all 15 places filled in one round
- The paytable's picture and its text give different Mini and Major figures
- Several Buffalo games share the artwork, so check the name on the tile
Buffalo Hold and Win keeps to one grid and two clear routes to a bonus: scatters on the middle reels for eight free spins, and coins for Hold and Win, where a full screen adds the 1000x Grand. Read the return in the rules at your casino, and set your bet and a loss limit before the first spin.
Buffalo Hold and Win FAQ ❓
How do you trigger the Buffalo Hold and Win bonus?
There are two bonuses. Three scatters give eight Major Free Spins, and scatters land only on reels 2, 3 and 4. Six or more coins in one spin start Hold and Win, a round of 3 spins that resets each time a new coin lands.
What does the Grand Bonus pay?
1000x the bet, so R1,000 at R1 a spin by our arithmetic. The rules award it when all 15 coins land in Hold and Win, on top of the sum of the coins themselves. It is a fixed prize, not a stated maximum win.
Can the free spins be retriggered?
Yes. The rules say the free spins can be retriggered and set no limit on how often. During the feature only the Majors, wilds, scatters and coins land, so the Minors are off the reels.
Is this the same game as Buffalo Hold and Win Extreme?
No. Booming Games lists them as two games with separate demos. The Extreme plays its coin round on up to four grids and adds a bonus wheel, while this original uses one grid of 15 places and has free spins and stacked wilds.
Where do I find the RTP?
In the terms and conditions at the end of the game's rules. Booming Games' own site does not list the figure for this game, so open the rules at your casino and read it there before you play.
