Closing or pausing your Betway SA account

Licensed in the Western Cape and Mpumalanga

Betway SA's terms let you end your account by written notice, and its responsible gambling options pause or close it, from a 24-hour break to a permanent self-exclusion that cannot be undone. Here is what its own pages say, including where two of them differ.

Closing the account

By its terms (clause 14.2), you can end your account by written notice to Betway once your bets are settled and anything you owe is paid; Betway then refunds the balance "within a reasonable time", after adjusting for losses, winnings and taxes. The clause does not say where to send the notice.

Coming back: Betway takes no more bets until a fresh registration form is submitted and accepted (clause 14.3).

Separately, the Profile and Social Content section of its terms says that to delete your user profile you contact customer support, and that account removal takes "a minimum of 72 hours, however it may take considerably longer".

The options Betway lists

Betway's Responsible Gaming page lists four: cooling off (at least 24 hours), a temporary suspension (at least a month), self-exclusion (at least 6 months) and permanent self-exclusion, which closes the account for good: "you will not be able to re-open it".

Its terms and conditions (clause 23.3) list a slightly different set: cooling off for at least 24 hours, a temporary suspension for at least one month, a "semi-permanent" suspension for at least three months, and permanent self-exclusion. The Responsible Gambling Policy section of the same terms repeats the Responsible Gaming page's four.

How to ask for it

From your profile: log in and open the Responsible gambling section to lock the account yourself for up to six months. Betway says the lock applies at once and the account "will automatically unlock once your selected exclusion period ends".

By e-mail: responsiblegambling@betway.co.za. Betway asks you to allow up to 48 hours, and says any activity on the account in that time remains your responsibility; its terms add that the request is verified with you by phone. Its FAQ also says customer service will set a self-exclusion on request.

Coming back after a suspension: its terms (clause 23.4) say the account "will not automatically be re-activated" when a self-exclusion ends, and clause 23.5 that re-activation is considered only on your own request by telephone or in person. Its Responsible Gaming page says instead that an account "will only be considered for unlocking upon your own request OR once the exclusion period has elapsed".

The lock you set in your profile is a separate option: its terms and its Responsible Gaming page say it unlocks automatically when its period ends.

What happens to your balance

On a permanent self-exclusion, Betway's Responsible Gaming page says it will contact you to return the remaining funds, "subject to a minimum balance of R20". Its terms (clause 23.4) say the remaining funds are returned "less bonus money".

Simply leaving an account unused is not the same as closing it: its terms (clause 25) call an account dormant after 90 days without a deposit or a bet, say the balance is forfeited once it "remains dormant for longer than 90 (ninety) consecutive days", and say that when more than R100 is left Betway will make reasonable efforts to contact you and, if it reaches you, return the balance if possible.

Deleting your personal information is a separate request, to informationofficer@ragingriver.co.za with proof of identity. Its privacy policy says Betway must keep records of transactions and identity documents for as long as the law requires.

If you are closing it because of gambling

Betway's pages name the National Responsible Gambling Programme's counselling line, 0800 006 008, and the e-mail helpline@responsiblegambling.org.za, and, as outside support, Open Counselling or Gambling Therapy. Our responsible gambling page explains the warning signs and, in general terms, the tools licensed operators offer, self-exclusion among them.

Everything on this page comes from Betway SA's own pages (its contact, help and FAQ pages, terms and conditions, privacy policy and responsible gambling page) and its App Store listing, read on 14 October 2026. We hold no account there and have not contacted it; if a page has changed since, Betway SA's own page is the final word.
