Flaming Fox is a Red Tiger slot released on 9 August 2018, on 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 lines. Its main feature has no trigger symbol and no meter in the help: a ninja fox sits behind the reels and can act at any time, smashing symbols to show a second reel set of top-paying and Wild rows, or turning a smashed position into a locked Wild. In free spins, whatever he does stays for the whole round.

How Flaming Fox is built

Red Tiger's page lists 5x3 under Reels/Rows, 10 under Play lines max and 9 August 2018 as the release date, so a spin shows 15 positions and pays along up to 10 lines, by our count. Its minimum and maximum bet read €0.10 and €50.00; what that becomes in rand is your casino's setting.

The game's help has three entries under SPECIAL SYMBOLS AND FEATURES: The Flaming Fox, Flaming Features and Free Spins. It describes no paytable on that page, no jackpot, no gamble and no feature buy, and Red Tiger's page shows no Feature buy-in line. The paytable lives in the game's own Pays menu at your casino.

Red Tiger's own artwork sets the scene: a night of paper lanterns, pagoda roofs and a moon, and a fox in a dark ninja robe with a long white moustache who sits cross-legged with a flame in each paw on the intro screen. Card letters such as Q show faintly behind the free spins screen.

What the fox does on a spin

The help introduces him in one line: 'The Flaming Fox Ninja meditates behind the reels and can spring into action at any time to activate some hot features!' It names no trigger symbol and no counter, so, by our reading, his features can start on any spin and nothing on the screen tells you one is coming.

When he acts, the help says, he 'may smash away symbols or entire reels to reveal a second, flaming reel set behind'. That second set is the point of the game: 'The flaming reels contain only complete rows of top-paying or WILD symbols'. The help does not say which symbols count as top-paying; Red Tiger's page speaks of 'senior' symbols instead.

Red Tiger's page puts the same feature another way: the fox 'may set fire to adjacent tiles or entire reels', and 'All activated tiles will then spin in sync, displaying only senior and wild symbols'. Read together, the positions he opens show the same high symbol or a Wild across a row, by our reading of the two texts.

The second hit: locked Wilds

The fox can go further. The help: 'The Flaming Fox may go further and smash individual symbols a second time, transforming them into locked WILDS! WILD symbols substitute for all paying symbols.' Red Tiger's page says he can 'upgrade tiles on fire by hitting them again'. So a locked Wild takes two hits on the same position, by our reading: the first opens it to the flaming set, the second locks it as a Wild.

For the base game the help does not say how long a locked Wild stays after the spin that made it.

Free spins, step by step 🎁

The order of events as the help and Red Tiger's page describe it:

  1. Three or more FREE SPINS symbols anywhere on the reels start the round; the help adds that 'The more FREE SPINS symbols, the more FREE SPINS you win'.
  2. The number of spins is random: the help says the symbols 'trigger a random number of FREE SPINS' and gives no table. One of Red Tiger's screenshots shows an award of 13.
  3. During the round the fox keeps acting, and 'All features triggered by the Flaming Fox remain LOCKED for the entire free spins session'. Red Tiger's page: 'all tiles on fire remain until the end of the bonus round'.
  4. An Extra Spin symbol 'may appear in the flaming reel set to grant you extra spins', so the round can run past its first count. The help does not say how many spins one Extra Spin adds.

Why the free spins round builds up

The help states the locking for the free spins session. There, every opened position and every locked Wild stays, so the screen can only gain flaming tiles and Wilds as the round goes on, by our reading. A round that opens a whole reel early has more spins left to use it than one that opens it on the last spin.

The numbers on Red Tiger's and Evolution's sites

Two sites of the same group print two returns for Flaming Fox: 96.11% on Red Tiger's page and 95.06% on Evolution's games site. Neither site explains the gap or names a version for South Africa, so check the RTP your casino states for its copy of the game. On volatility they match, HIGH on Red Tiger's badge and High on Evolution's site.

Red Tiger also lists a hit frequency of 34.09%. Over many spins that works out at close to one paying spin in every three, by our arithmetic (100 / 34.09 = 2.9); the studio's own description calls it 'a frequent hit rate'.

Its Max payout reads '3 457 x bet'. The description promises 'over 3,333x stake' and the intro screen prints OVER 3,333x. Both are Red Tiger's figures, not a forecast and not a win limit: the help names no cap. At a R2 stake, 3,457x is R6,914, by our arithmetic.

No staking pattern or betting system makes the fox act more often or beats the house edge; our RTP and volatility guide explains how hit frequency, volatility and RTP fit together.

Pros, cons and verdict ⚖️

Pros
  • A 34.09% hit frequency on Red Tiger's page, about one winning spin in three
  • The flaming reel set holds only complete rows of top-paying or Wild symbols
  • Everything the fox opens or locks stays for the whole free spins round
  • Extra Spin symbols can lengthen the round
Cons
  • The fox acts at random, with no meter or trigger you can watch
  • The number of free spins is random, with no table in the help
  • High volatility by both of the group's sites
  • Red Tiger and Evolution give two different RTP figures

Flaming Fox is a short rulebook around one character. Any spin can bring the fox, who opens positions to a reel set of high symbols and Wilds, and a second hit locks a Wild in place. The free spins round keeps all of it. Red Tiger pairs that with a 96.11% RTP, a HIGH badge and a top figure of 3,457x.

Flaming Fox FAQ ❓

How do you trigger free spins in Flaming Fox?

Three or more FREE SPINS symbols anywhere on the reels. The help says the number of spins is random and that more symbols give more spins, without a table; one of Red Tiger's screenshots shows 13. Extra Spin symbols in the flaming reel set can add more.

What triggers the Flaming Fox feature?

The help names no trigger. It says the fox 'can spring into action at any time' and then smashes symbols or whole reels to reveal a flaming reel set of top-paying or Wild rows. A second smash on the same position turns it into a locked Wild.

Do the locked Wilds stay in Flaming Fox?

In free spins, yes: 'All features triggered by the Flaming Fox remain LOCKED for the entire free spins session', by the help. For the base game the help does not say how long a locked Wild stays, so read the HELP screen at your casino.

What is the RTP of Flaming Fox?

Two figures: 96.11% on Red Tiger's own page and 95.06% on Evolution's games site. Neither explains the difference or names the version South African casinos run, so look for the RTP your casino states for its copy of Flaming Fox before you play.

What is the biggest win Red Tiger lists for Flaming Fox?

Under Max payout Red Tiger's page shows '3 457 x bet'; the description speaks of 'over 3,333x stake' and the intro screen of OVER 3,333x. Neither is a forecast or a cap the help names. 3,457 times R2 is R6,914, by our arithmetic.
