PSL Betting: How South African Bookmakers Settle Soccer Bets
A soccer bet on a PSL match is settled under the bookmaker's own rules, and those rules decide what counts when a game is delayed, cut short or level after 90 minutes. Here are the markets in plain words and the rules of four South African bookmakers side by side.

The PSL competitions
The Premier Soccer League runs more than one competition. As listed on psl.co.za on 8 October 2026, its match centre covered the Betway Premiership, the Nedbank Cup, the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the DStv Diski Challenge, the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout. On the same day the Betway Premiership log on its match centre listed 16 clubs, and the league's fixture list ran to 22 May 2027.
The same site named Moses Mabhida Stadium as the venue of the 2026 MTN8 final. Dates and kick-off times move during a season, so the PSL's official website, psl.co.za, is the place to confirm them before a bet. This page repeats neither its fixtures nor its log.
Soccer markets in plain words
A bookmaker's own match page shows which of these it offers on a given game.
- 1X2. The full-time result with three outcomes: 1 is a home win, X a draw and 2 an away win. A drawn game makes both team selections lose.
- Double chance. One bet that covers two of the three outcomes: home or draw, draw or away, home or away. Covering more outcomes means a lower price than either one alone.
- Draw no bet. You back one team to win, and the stake comes back if the game ends level. SuperSportBet's soccer rules put it that way: bets are declared void, and stakes returned, if the match ends in a draw.
- Both teams to score. Yes if each side scores at least once, no if either side ends the match without a goal.
- Over/under goals. A line such as 2.5 goals. Three or more goals means over, two or fewer means under; the half goal stops the total landing exactly on the line.
- Handicap. One side starts with a goal start or deficit. A three-way handicap keeps a draw on the adjusted score. An Asian handicap has no draw: in the rules of Apexbets and ZARbet a level score on a 0 line voids the bet, and quarter lines split the stake in two halves.

Rules change, and the bookmaker's own page is the one that counts, so read it before you bet. Interbet's row comes from its published live (in-play) betting rules and applies to live bets only.

What these rules change for a PSL bet
Ninety minutes is the settlement line at all four, at Interbet in its rules for live bets. Injury and stoppage time are part of it, while extra time and a shootout sit outside it. That matters most in a cup tie: if a knockout match is level after 90 minutes and the competition plays on, a 1X2 bet at Apexbets, ZARbet or SuperSportBet is settled as a draw, whoever goes through. SuperSportBet's rules describe a separate To Qualify market for a bet on the team that advances, and Apexbets' rules say match specials ignore extra time and penalties unless otherwise stated.
The bookmakers part ways on postponed games. Apexbets and ZARbet give a postponed, cancelled or abandoned match 24 hours from the original start; SuperSportBet keeps bets open for 48 hours after the scheduled date. When a game is stopped before 90 minutes, Apexbets, ZARbet and SuperSportBet void the bets, except markets already settled by what happened, such as over 2.5 goals once three have gone in.
Two more lines are worth knowing. SuperSportBet settles on the final score at the end of the match, and a later change by a governing body does not alter that. For multibets, SuperSportBet voids only the leg that falls away and the rest carries on, and ZARbet settles the bet on the remaining selections. Apexbets, ZARbet and SuperSportBet each have a separate rule for friendlies, so a pre-season game is a case for the full text.
How soccer prices carry the margin
A price shows what a bet returns, and it already includes the bookmaker's margin. Our example: a 1X2 market priced at 2.40 for the home side, 3.10 for the draw and 3.00 for the away side. R50 on the draw at 3.10 returns R155, the R50 stake plus R105. Turn each price into a chance with 1 divided by the price: about 41.7%, 32.3% and 33.3%. Together they come to about 107.3%, not 100%, and the extra 7.3 points is the margin built into the odds.

Treat a soccer bet as money spent, because it can be lost. Decide on a budget before you deposit, keep it apart from rent and groceries, and do not raise stakes to win back a loss. Betting is for adults 18 and over.

Does extra time count in a PSL match bet?
At Apexbets, ZARbet and SuperSportBet, soccer match markets are settled on 90 minutes plus injury or stoppage time, unless stated otherwise, and extra time and penalty shootouts are left out. Interbet's live betting rules say the same for live markets.
What happens to my bet if a PSL match is postponed?
It depends on the bookmaker. Apexbets and ZARbet void the bet if the match is not replayed or scheduled within 24 hours of the original start. SuperSportBet keeps it open for 48 hours after the scheduled date, then voids anything not yet decided.
What if a match is abandoned after a few goals?
Apexbets, ZARbet and SuperSportBet void bets on a match stopped before 90 minutes, but markets already decided stand. With three goals scored, an over 2.5 goals bet is a winner at all three, while a 1X2 bet on the same match is void (at SuperSportBet once 48 hours pass without the match being completed).
Is a cup tie decided on penalties settled on the penalties?
Not a 1X2 bet at Apexbets, ZARbet or SuperSportBet: it is settled on the score after 90 minutes, so a level game is a draw. SuperSportBet's rules describe a To Qualify market for the team that goes through.
What is the difference between draw no bet and double chance?
Draw no bet backs one team and returns the stake on a draw. Double chance covers two outcomes, such as home or draw, so a draw wins the bet. Each usually pays less than a straight win on the same team.
