Data Free Betting Sites in South Africa: What the Bookmakers Say
Some South African bookmakers run a version of their site or app that, in their own words, does not use your mobile data. This page lists the bookmakers we review that say so themselves, quotes what each one says, and explains what to read before you rely on it. Data free is about mobile data only: the bets themselves cost what you stake.

What data free means
Data free, data zero or zero-rated are names for the same idea: the bookmaker arranges for some of its pages to load without taking megabytes from your bundle or airtime. It is about the cost of the connection, not the cost of a bet. Every stake is still your own money, and a data free page does not make betting cheaper or a win more likely.
How it works is the bookmaker's and the mobile network's business, and the details differ. A data free version is often a separate, lighter site on its own address, or a separate part of an app, with fewer sections than the full site. Which networks it covers, which sections are inside it and when standard data charges apply again are set in each operator's own terms, and they can change without notice.
So the useful question is not only whether a bookmaker has a data free option, but what that option includes. The bookmakers below answer it differently.
Bookmakers that say they are data free
Only bookmakers we review whose own site or app uses the words data free or data zero appear here, with what they say in their own words, in the order of our ranking. A bookmaker missing from this table may still offer something similar: Supabets, below, says so on its app page, and others may too. Each brand name opens our review.
| Bookmaker | Licensed in | Data-free |
|---|---|---|
| Western Cape, MpumalangaLicensed in the Western Cape and Mpumalanga | Betway calls its app 'data-free' ('Download our data-free app') with 'light data use'; 'Data-Free' is an entry in the sport menu | |
| Northern CapeLicensed in the Northern Cape | Yes: a 'DATAFREE' entry in the menu and a 'Data Free' quick link open the site on a data-zero domain (tictacbets.data-zero.co.za) |
Each value is what the operator states on its own site or App Store listing, the same as in its review; "-" means we could not read it. We have not deposited or withdrawn with them. The order follows how we rate.
Betway SA: a data free offer inside the app
On its app page, Betway SA lists light data use among the app's features and says: "Download our data-free app to your mobile device and place your next bet today." Its sport menu has a Data-Free entry.
Betway's own Data Free page describes the scope. It says the offer lets you "place pre-match and live bets on your favourite sports, and make your Four to Score predictions without using your data", and adds two conditions: "the Data Free offering is only available by downloading the Betway App", and "Standard data charges will apply." The page does not say which networks are covered or what the last sentence applies to, and it only says that terms and conditions apply, without a link, so ask Betway before you count on it, especially for the app download itself.
The same app page also lists live sports streaming and casino games. The Data Free page names only sports bets and Four to Score, so it is safer to assume that anything else in the app uses data as usual unless Betway's terms say otherwise.
Tic Tac Bets: a separate data zero site
Tic Tac Bets has a "datafree" entry in its menu and a "Data Free" quick link in its footer. The menu entry opens the site on a separate address, tictacbets.data-zero.co.za, and the footer link points to a download page on the same data zero domain.
The data zero site is a shorter version of the main one. When we read it, its menu held Sports, Aviator and Lucky Numbers, while the main site's menu also carries SkyPilot, Slots, Live Games, Betgames, Virtual Games and Racing. If a section you want is not on the data zero menu, the data zero pages do not say whether it opens without data, so assume it may use data as usual.
The download page offers an Android app with the line "100% DATAFREE DOWNLOAD" and says the app is "Zero-rated on supported South African networks." It does not list those networks, and it offers no iPhone version. Which networks are supported is a question for Tic Tac Bets' support or your network provider.
Supabets: a data-free app, in its own words
The app page of Supabets lists light data use among the app's features and says: "Download our data-free app to your mobile device and place your next bet today." It does not say what the data free part covers or which networks it works on, and our review does not record it yet, so Supabets is not in the table above. Ask Supabets before you rely on it.
What to check before you rely on it
- The address in your browser. A data free site usually has its own address; the moment a link takes you back to the main domain, normal data charges can apply.
- Your network. Zero-rating is an arrangement between the operator and the networks it names in its terms. On a network outside that list, or on Wi-Fi, the label does not change anything.
- What sits inside. Live streams, casino games and large images tend to be the heaviest parts of a betting site, and the offers quoted above do not name them.
- The app download. Installing or updating an app can use data even when the app later runs data free. Download an Android file only from the bookmaker's own app page; our betting apps guide explains how.
- Your money. The offers quoted above say nothing about deposits or withdrawals on the data free version, so check the operator's terms if you rely on it for those. Our minimum deposit and withdrawal times pages compare those across bookmakers.
- The licence. A data free option says nothing about who regulates the bookmaker. The licence column above names it, and our licence guide shows how to check it on the provincial board's own register.
Where this page comes from
The quotes are from each bookmaker's own pages, read when this page was last updated; the table shows the same fields as our betting hub. We did not install the apps or measure how much data any page uses; we report what the operators say. Operators change these offers, so their own current terms always come first. How we choose and score the bookmakers we cover is on how we rate.
Bet with a limit
A data free site makes it easy to open the bookmaker at any moment, and that is worth keeping in mind. Set a deposit limit in your account, decide before you start how much you are willing to lose, and bet only what you can afford. Only adults 18 and over may bet. Data free betting FAQ
What is a data free betting site?
It is a version of a bookmaker's site or app that, by the operator's own account, loads without using your mobile data. It concerns only the cost of the connection: your stakes are real money, and it does not make a bet cheaper or a win more likely.
Which South African bookmakers say they are data free?
The table on this page lists the bookmakers we review that say so on their own site or app, with their own words. When we read their pages, Betway SA and Tic Tac Bets did, and the Supabets app page calls its app data-free. Others may offer something similar that we could not read.
Can I watch live streams on a data free site?
Do not assume so. Betway's Data Free page names pre-match and live bets and Four to Score, not streaming, and the Tic Tac Bets data zero menu shows sports, Aviator and Lucky Numbers. Streams use a lot of data, so check the operator's terms first.
Does data free work on every network?
Not necessarily. Zero-rating is arranged with particular mobile networks. Tic Tac Bets speaks of supported South African networks without listing them, and Betway's Data Free page names none. Ask the bookmaker's support or your network before you rely on it.
Is a data free bookmaker different from the full site?
It is the same bookmaker under the same licence: the Tic Tac Bets data zero site shows the same Northern Cape licence in its footer. What usually differs is how much you can open without data: the data free version tends to carry fewer sections than the full one.
